Specifications: Both the Acer AspireRevo and the Asus Eee Box are actually nettop models (mini-desktops). They are catered for consumers who are looking for a tiny desktop to perform simple computing tasks such as running simple applications, checking your e-mail, surfing the web and word processing. Both these models come with a 1.6Ghz Intel Atom processor, a 160GB hard drive and 1GB of RAM. Both these new models are also now capable of playing HD movies and they come complete with a HDMI port.
Design: As their name suggest, ‘tiny’ is the keyword here. The Acer AspireRevo measures at 7.1 x 1.2 x 7.1 inches while the Asus Eee Box HD measures at 8.7 x 7 x 1 inches. Both nettops sports very different designs. The Asus model rests on a stand, very much like an external hard drive while the Acer model rests on an oval stand, like a HDTV. If you were looking for a nettop to discreetly slip unnoticed into a nook and cranny, the Asus model would be ideal. The Acer model is designed to be more showy and flashy.
Features & Performance: One of the biggest highlights of these the Acer AspireRevo and the Asus Eee Box HD is their capabilities to play HD content, thanks to their more powerful graphics card. You can hook up any of these nettops to your HDTV in your living room and you will have a complete online, HD entertainment unit. Both models performed well in handling simple everyday computing tasks (so long as you keep your expectations realistic). Another highlight of these two models would be their price. Although both models are relatively cheap (with the Asus Eee Box HD priced at $359), Acer seems eager to dominate the nettop market with its pricing.
